When Beer, Gear and Sandals Save Rivers
We’re happy to report that some of our must-haves when heading to the river recently became part of our efforts to save rivers. This summer, four valued partners raised funds to support our work, while helping spread the word about Western Rivers Conservancy’s mission to save the great rivers of the West.
Sierra Nevada Brewing Company, one of the founders of the modern craft brewing industry, has been an unwavering supporter of WRC for years. This spring, the Chico, California-based brewery released River Ryed, a limited edition IPA brewed specially for WRC. Sierra Nevada released River Ryed in twelve-ounce cans—instead of bottles, which keeps glass off the river—and distributed the beer in eight Western states. The brewery generously donated a portion of River Ryed sales to WRC.
On other fronts, Fishpond, the maker of top-notch fly-fishing and outdoor adventure gear, and Chaco Footwear, known for its indestructible river sandals, released two limited-edition sandals that are perfect for the river. The Flip and Z/2 hit shelves this spring and summer. Chaco and Fishpond donated portion of sales from each pair to WRC, an effort that raised $10,000 for our rivers by the end of summer.
Lastly, we’d like to thank our newest partner, Western Rise, manufacturer of versatile outdoor apparel that is contributing a portion of its profits to WRC. Like Fishpond and Sierra Nevada, Western Rise knows the importance of clean, cold, healthy rivers and the need to protect public access to our favorite streams.
We are honored to work with companies that craft quality products and realize the value of raising awareness and engaging new people in our mission to create sanctuaries for fish, wildlife and people along the great rivers of the West.
Thanks all! And thanks to you, for all you do for WRC.
