Many boaters are familiar with the put-in at the Minam Store, immediately downstream of the picturesque confluence of the Minam and Wallowa Rivers in the northeast corner of Oregon.This is an extremely important access point for river users, including anglers, hunters and especially boaters, who use it as a launching point for spectacular multi-day family floating trips on the Wild and Scenic Wallowa and Grande Ronde Rivers. The Minam Store sits on two acres with 350 feet of river frontage, and is adjacent to the Minam State Recreation Area.
Keeping this prized site available for recreational use is of the utmost importance. In September 2010, Western Rivers Conservancy signed a contract to buy the property with plans to complete purchase in spring 2011.
Acquisition of this site will improve river access to this majestic river canyon and complement the hiking, fishing and camping opportunities available in the Minam State Recreation Area next door.
